Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock The Musical - Review

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock The Musical Review at The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, Kent

If you don't already know, 'School of Rock' is a story about a middle-aged, failed rock star, Dewey Finn, who takes it upon himself to fake his way into being a supply teacher for a bit of cash to help pay his rent, by fooling everyone into thinking his name is that of his only friend’s, Ned Schneebly and soon realises his talents are best suited to a being a music teacher in order to survive the lie and soon goes about dragging the kids into the con.

Luckily the kids happily adapt to ‘Mr Schneebly's 'school's out' rule and soon warm to his musical dream! Although they love their affluent and very well-educated school, they are sick of their parents ignoring them, expecting them to quietly follow the path which is laid out before them, so it turns out Mr Schneebly became a welcome distraction and encouraged the kids passion they already naturally held within.

Together they create a bit of havoc, break all the rules, bunk school to take part in a Rock Competition and all to aid ‘Schneebly's’ chance to live his Rock-God dream through the Kid's amazing musical abilities!... What Dewey didn't expect, was to end up feeling a part of something special, connected to the community and a much loved human being … and not just by the kids!

Now let me tell you, the kids in this show are not here to mess about. These kids can easily claim the title of Rock Heroes. Their enthusiasm, passion and talent is just unreal! They play all the instruments and even throw in some epic head-banging when they got the chance.

So between the many performers in this show, they all manage to bring you something pretty special. Instrument playing, Singing, dancing, acting not to mention some very laugh out loud moments.

Great performances all round, with several of the actors seamlessly playing more than one role.

Everyone will leave the show with a different favourite character, but a guarantee you’ll all want to be part of the band and ‘Stick it to the Man!’.

The spectacular finale transports you from a West End show to feeling like you are front row at a classic rock concert and the hits just keep on coming. While there is no requested audience participation, the audience are clapping and couldn’t wait to get on their feet at the end with a sincere standing ovation.

This quality Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical, is a definite must-see, it’s suitable for all ages and it clearly entertains each and every person in the room … including the performers themselves!
