Hairspray The Broadway Musical - Show Review
Hairspray The Musical - Review at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford, Kent
Teenage Tracy Turnblad is on a mission to become a star on the Corny Collins Show, meet the boy of her dreams, create a life of peace and change the world … not bad for a young girl who doesn’t quite fit in, thanks to the shallowness (and jealousy) of her peers …
The Corny Collins Show is a 60’s dance and music television show, where the groovy kids perform to the latest tracks, only there is a racial element of separation and Tracy’s mission is to put an end to this wrongness, bring everyone together and integrate and hopefully fall in love along the way!
The show is full of wonderful songs, performed by amazing singers, if you are a fan of the films, then you’ll be pleased to hear that the best songs are included, such as: ‘Good Morning Baltimore’, ‘The Nicest Kids in Town’, ‘Miss Baltimore Crabs’, ‘Big, Blonde & Beautiful’, ‘You’re Timeless to me’, ‘Without love’, ‘You can’t stop the beat’ and many more.
There were no faults to be found in any of the performances, every single person had a truly tremendous voice and the dance moves were on point, it is easy to see why Hairspray the Musical was such a hit both on Broadway and at the West End and why now it continuously sells out around their UK tour.
Outstanding performances from everyone, but especially from Katie Brace (Tracy Turnblad) Rebecca Jayne-Davies (Penny Pingleton) Bernadette Bangura (Motormouth Maybelle) Jessica Croll (Amber Von Tussle and Rebecca Thornhill (Velma Von Tussle).
Hairspray is currently on at The Orchard Theatre, in Dartford, Kent until 26th March 2022 and is selling out fast, so for more information or to book tickets, please see their website here.
