Titanic The Musical - Review
Titanic The Musical Review - The Orchard Theatre, Dartford, Kent.
This production of the Titanic story focuses on the the heart rending account of the historic disaster and of the backstories of the individual passengers and crew.
The hopes and aspirations of the passengers in all classes of the ship are focused on in the first half, bringing the characters and their backstories to life as they excitedly travel to a new life in America.
We especially enjoyed the dance scene of the 1st class passengers and loved the character Alice Beane played by Bree Smith desperately trying to mix with “1st class” even though she was strictly “2nd class”
In Act two we find the telegrapher sending a desperate SOS message to the SS California.
An uneasiness starts to show in the crew, whilst the passengers are unaware of the unfolding disaster and continue to enjoy themselves.
The performers show cleverly the sense of unease felt by the passengers as danger unfolds emanating into terror and panic. The cast keep the audience in suspense, even though we all know the eventual outcome. It is fast paced with an excellent musical score taking you to a very moving tribute to the lives that were sadly lost.
It is difficult to pick out any one performance as special , as the whole cast really were excellent. The musical number “The Blame” performed by Paul Kemble (Ismay) , Ian McLarnon (Andrews) and Graham Buckley (Captain Smith) was superb.
I also really liked Barnaby Hughes portrayal of Henry Etches.
Would I watch it again? - Yes in a heartbeat. Absolutely loved it!
