The Commitments UK Tour - Review
The Commitments UK Tour Review at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford, Kent
After an amazing five year run in the West End, ‘The Commitments’, based on a BAFTA award-winning film and novel, has started its long-awaited UK theatre tour and we are extremely pleased to say that if you are even a little bit in love with music, then this is one show you must go and see.
The Commitments is about a working-class man, Jimmy Rabbitte, who dreams of creating the most successful soul band Dublin has ever produced and he manages to get a whole group of talented people together, all wanting to make ‘The Commitments’ the best Soul-band there ever was, which through Jimmy’s hard work and determination, the dream was incredibly close to becoming a reality.
Jimmy spends his time directing and coaching the group, fighting to bring a sense of community within them, each one of them as talented as the next, with their incredible vocal power and their skilled and more than capable instrument playing, but some self-absorbed, egos get in the way, bringing animosity, arguments and even some fisty-cuffs, destroying what could have been.
Featuring some smash-hit, toe-tapping tunes like; Mustang Sally, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, River Deep, Mountain High, Knock On Wood, Night Train, Try A Little Tenderness, In The Midnight Hour, Save Me, I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Reach Out, along with many more, if you like an ounce of good music, then this soulful show, with hit after hit, is a must for you!
The storyline is strong, but feels like it could have gone further, I didn’t feel a deep connection with any of the characters, and with the sudden ending, it left me feeling it wasn’t enough. Saying this, the music completely drew me in, blew me away in fact, the performances are just outstanding and for this reason I feel we can highly recommend, everyone came out of the theatre buzzing, the fantastic, soulful tunes left us all wanting much, much more!
Who is this show good for? – Perfect for date night and pals night out – Language used is not suitable for children’s ears!
The Commitments (The Musical) is currently on at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford, Kent between 13th – 18th March 2023 and we urge you to get your tickets here and now, before thy all sell out!
