Hazlitt Theatre's Peter Pan Panto 2023 - Review

Peter Pan review Hazlitt Theatre panto

Peter Pan Pantomime Review, at The Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone, Kent

I really don’t know where to start with this review, except for two words … ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!!

The Hazlitt Theatre’s pantomime for 2023 is their lovely adaptation of Peter Pan and we were honoured to be invited to their PR night, which doubled up as the launch of their wonderful panto season.

Each year The Hazlitt Theatre brings fantastic Pantomimes to Maidstone town, (and being completely biased and for obvious reasons, last year was our favourite because our son was in it) but if I am to tell you the truth, I think this one is the best panto we have seen there and we have seen many!

Where do I begin? The casting is just flawless, the dynamics of the cast is so perfectly combined, if you ask our lad, he loved watching ‘Stinky’ played by the lovely David Zachary, Stinky is quite naughty, he had (and always does have) our boy giggling away and is always a firm favourite with all the kids!

For us, anything that had a mix of ‘Stinky’, ‘Starky’ (Stuart Ash) and ‘Mia’ (Ria Turner) was pure gold. The talent these three have, not just in acting, but with their singing and comedy timing is just outstanding. They played a few different characters and boy, do they work well together! Bringing them back from last year’s panto was a brilliant decision and we so hope they do next year too.

Of course, the rest of the cast were also superb, ‘Mrs Smee’, played by Joe Meloy, ‘Captain Hook’ , played by John Stacey, ‘Peter Pan’, played by Matt Monfort, ‘Wendy’, played by Rebecca Avery and not forgetting all the fabulous young people and dancers that were involved.

All cast members complimented each other beautifully, between them all they created some very lively audience participation, they were perfect for this show and together brought this spectacular panto to life.

For the opening night ‘Michael was played by Hamish Mcintyre and ‘John’ was played by Jayden Whittal. Both incredible young actors/dancers, who you can see are clearly going to have an amazing future in performing! – There must be some seriously proud parents right now!
